Mission Climbs Back to Secure the Conference Win

Box Score Pregame
Mission hosted Central Baptist College on Tuesday night at Hilly Beck Court inside W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse, looking to keep building momentum after a thrilling 3–2 victory over Harris-Stowe State. The Lady Patriots entered the matchup 12–17 overall and 8–7 in American Midwest Conference play, eager to solidify their position heading into the postseason. Central Baptist, coming off a 3–1 loss to UHSP, arrived at 8–20 overall and 7–7 in league play. The two programs met earlier this season, when Mission swept the Lady Mustangs on the road—a result the Lady Patriots aimed to repeat on their home court.

Set 1 – Central Baptist 25, Mission 23
Mission struck first in the opening set, jumping ahead with an early kill before Central Baptist answered with a 3–1 run. A big block from Sarah Purcell and a perfectly placed serve by Allie Czachowski tied the score at 6–6. Shelby Evans followed with two quick kills to push Mission in front 8–7, but the Lady Mustangs countered midway through the set to build a 16–13 lead, forcing a Mission timeout. Despite a composed rally—featuring a block from Abbi Street and an ace by Czachowski—Mission's late surge came up just short, as Central Baptist edged out a tightly contested opener, 25–23.

Set 2 – Mission 25, Central Baptist 18
The Lady Patriots bounced back in set two with renewed energy, taking control early behind a kill from Czachowski and strong serving from Abbi Street. Hannah Maxwell added a heads-up push into open space to extend the lead, prompting a Central Baptist timeout at 9–4. Out of the break, Mission maintained its rhythm, with Shelby Evans halting a Mustang run and Czachowski connecting on a clutch back-corner kill. With the set knotted at 13 midway through, Cora Duit and Street reignited the Mission offense, and Karsyn Ryan delivered a timely ace to make it 19–15. Sarah Purcell pounded home a kill to cap a dominant frame, as Mission evened the match with a 25–18 win.

Set 3 – Mission 25, Central Baptist 17
Mission carried its momentum into the third, opening with an ace from Hannah Maxwell and maintaining pressure throughout. Sarah Purcell stayed sharp at the net with multiple kills, while Street and Czachowski combined to extend the lead to 14–9, forcing another Central Baptist timeout. Mission's attack kept rolling behind crisp passing and efficient finishes, highlighted by a Cora Duit kill that made it 21–15. Czachowski added an ace down the stretch, and Street finished the set with authority at 25–17, giving Mission a 2–1 match lead.

Set 4 – Mission 25, Central Baptist 20
Looking to close out the match, Mission wasted no time establishing control as Czachowski opened the fourth with a kill. The teams traded points early before Purcell broke a 4–4 tie with another powerful finish. After falling behind briefly, Mission responded with a 6–2 surge, capped by an ace from Ryan, to move ahead 15–12. The Lady Patriots' front line continued to dominate, with Evans and Czachowski hammering home key points to extend the advantage. Central Baptist mounted a small rally late, but Mission's composure held strong, sealing the win 25–20 to take the match in four sets.

Postgame
