Patriots Split Neutral-Site Series with Fort Lauderdale at Space Coast Stadium

VIERA, Fla. — Mission split its two-game neutral-site series against the University of Fort Lauderdale at Space Coast Stadium, earning a 7-1 win on February 25 before dropping the February 26 matchup 7-3. The Patriots entered the series 8-9 overall.


Game 1 – Mission 7, Fort Lauderdale 1

Mission used timely hitting and strong pitching to secure a 7-1 victory in the opener.

Trey Mulholland gave the Patriots an early spark with a solo home run in the first inning. The game remained tight until the seventh, when Carter Vienhage doubled to center to score Kyle Langford and extend the lead.

Mission broke it open in the eighth. Drew Vaughan delivered a two-run single to score Clay Palen and Sam Golden. Later in the inning, Vienhage launched a three-run homer to left, scoring Langford and Vaughan to cap a five-run frame.

On the mound, Mission's pitching staff combined to allow just three hits and no earned runs. Braylon Essian tossed four scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Hunter Roberts allowed one unearned run over two innings. Zach Still earned the win with a scoreless inning, and Garrett Hunter closed the door with two shutout innings to record the save.

Game 2 – Fort Lauderdale 7, Mission 3

Mission jumped ahead early in Game 2 when Kaedan Thompson hit a solo home run in the first inning. However, Fort Lauderdale responded with four runs in the bottom half and added two more in the second to build a 6-1 lead.

The Patriots cut into the deficit in the seventh. Trey Mulholland singled to center to score Zachary Beatty and Kyle Langford, trimming the margin to 7-3. That would be as close as Mission would get.

Mulholland led the offense with two hits and two RBI. Thompson finished with a home run and one RBI.

Mission used five pitchers in the contest. Lane McEachern took the loss after allowing four runs in the first inning. Brendyn Paulsen provided two innings of relief, allowing one unearned run.
