SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Lady Patriots played from behind much of the game as they shot poorly against the Lady Cougars of Columbia College. In the first quarter, the lead went back-and-forth six times before the Lady Cougars took the lead with a trey, 16-14, with 1:32 remaining. The Lady Patriots went scoreless the last two minutes of the period, while Columbia went on a 7-0 run to lead 20-14 after ten minutes of play. In the second quarter, the Lady Cougars built a nine point advantage, 24-15 at the 7:54 mark. The Lady Patriots rallied to within 26-23 on a three-pointer by
Miya Nieto with 6:22. Columbia then went on a 7-2 spurt to take a 33-25 with 3:47 left in the first half. With less than two minutes to go in the first half,
Cassidy Hambelton made four free throws and
Laney Humble connected on a three-pointer to rally the team to within 37-32 with :46 to go. The half then ended with a
Brooklyn Luna three-point shot to pull within 37-35.
In the third quarter, Columbia College went on a 10-2 run in the first four minutes to push the lead to double figures, 47-37, for the Lady Cougars.
Josie Sullivan hit a jumper to stop the run, but then the Lady Cougars scored the next six points to lead 52-39 at 3:33. After a timeout by MU, the Lady Pats scored the next seven points to draw the deficit down to six points, 52-46. However, momentum then shifted back to the Lady Cougars as they scored the quarter's final six points to lead 58-46 with a quarter remaining. During the early fourth quarter, Mission could not find a way to shorten the deficit. Columbia pushed the advantage to 72-51 with 5:20 left in the contest. The Lady Patriots began to rally with 2 treys by
Brooklyn Luna and a trey and jumper by
Josie Sullivan, brought the lead down to 76-64. Mission would get the deficit down to ten points, twice, in the last minute, but it wasn't enough. For the game, the Lady Cougars outshot Mission 53 to 38 percent from the field.
