SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Lady Patriots started and ended strong, but the middle quarters were a struggle as the team dropped an AMC match to conference leader Williams Baptist, 90-78. The Lady Patriots fell behind 4-0 to begin the game, but then proceeded to go on a 12-0 run six minutes later, eight of which were scored by
Cassidy Hambelton. The Lady Eagles bounced back to eventually pull within 14-12 at the 2:25 mark, but then Hambelton canned her third trey of the quarter, 17-12 MU. The Lady Pats finished off the first quarter with a 25-14 advantage. The second period was nothing short of disastrous for Mission. Williams Baptist' inside game was too much for Mission in the second period as they scored 20 of their 34 points in the second quarter in the paint to take a 48-34 lead into the halftime locker room. The Lady Patriots would not have the lead the remainder of the contest.
In the third quarter, despite a three-pointer each by
Brooklyn Luna and Hambelton to start the period, the Lady Patriots were only able to get within 12, 52-40. Then the Lady Eagles went back to their inside game to lengthen their advantage to 21 at the 3:53 mark, to lead 63-42. Mission did rally a bit thanks to treys by
Josie Sullivan and Luna, but an 8-0 run by the Lady Eagles resulted in a third quarter deficit, trailing 71-48. The Lady Patriots put on quite a rally in the fourth stanza. A 15-6 run in the first four minutes of the final period brought MU to within 77-63 causing WBU to take a timeout. A 9-2 spurt over the next 2:15 pulled the Lady pats to within 79-72 and another Lady Eagle timeout had to be called. After a
Heaven Shockley layup pulled Mission to within 83-78 with 1:28 remaining, the Lady Patriots had a chance to get even closer after an Eagle turnover, but they were unable to capitalize. Williams Baptist finished the game on a 7-0 run, a combination of free throws and layups as the Lady Patriots were gambling on defense.
