How's it going-
The Baseball Patriots played four games this past week in Joplin, Missouri at Joe Becker Stadium, the home field of Missouri Southern State University. The opponent for the four-game series were the Ecclesia College Royals. In the opener, the two teams were fairly stymied by the pitching, but finally the Patriots came through with a big walk-off double by Grant Merryman in the bottom of the seventh to win it. In the second game, BBC took a commanding early 8-1 lead and, despite suspect defense, came away with an 11-5 victory. On day two, and game 3, the Royals came out on fire in the early going to lead the Patriots 7-1. Slowly, BBC got back in the game, and then scored 4 runs to take a 10-7 lead that would hold up for the win. The key hit for BBC in the sixth inning was a bases loaded triple by Kam Grant. Going for the sweep of the series in game 4, the Patriots erupted for 3 runs in the first, 1 run in the fourth, and 5 runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead. The five runs were capped off by an over the fence two-run, home run by Bob Andert. Landon Richards did allow a run in the top of the sixth inning, but would get the complete game, 2 hitter, 9-1 victory on the mound. The Varsity record is now 32-19.
The Reserve Baseball Patriots first traveled to St. Louis to play the Reserves of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. Unfortunately, they came out on the short end of a 3-9 contest. Next, the team played a doubleheader against Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A great deal of offense was shown by both teams with our Reserves coming away with the sweep, 14-12 and 13-10. The Reserves are now 11-11-1 on the season.
