Dawson Meinders

Head assistant Coach Dawson Meinders has been an integral part of Mission University basketball since joining the program as a player during the 2019–20 season. Meinders played his freshman year as the team was being re-established under the leadership of his father, Head Coach Darin Meinders. A versatile shooting guard, Dawson was willing to contribute wherever needed—whether on the perimeter or in the post, both offensively and defensively. His dedication and performance earned him Second-Team All-American honors that year.

In his sophomore season, Meinders was a key contributor to the team’s ACCA National Championship run and was recognized as an Honorable Mention All-American. His junior year presented a new challenge as he battled through injury and physical pain, ultimately leading him to transition from player to coach. Embracing the opportunity to remain involved, he joined the coaching staff and helped guide the program through its move to the NCCAA, culminating in another National Championship.

A standout in high school as well, Meinders had an impressive career at Walnut Grove High School in Missouri, where he also played for his father. He helped lead the school to its first-ever Class 1 Boys State Championship and to being the most prolific shooting team in Missouri history. He also contributed to three additional final four finishes. He was honored with All-State Class 1 Basketball selections in two seasons.

Dawson now steps into the role of Head Women’s Assistant Coach under his father, Coach Darin Meinders. Building on the strong foundation they’ve established through years of success together, Dawson brings drive, dedication, and a deep understanding of the game to this new chapter. His passion for developing players—both on and off the court—paired with his ability to lead with humility and purpose, makes him a powerful asset to the coaching staff. Together, the Meinders duo looks to carry forward a legacy of excellence, discipline, and faith-driven leadership in the women’s program.

Off the court, Meinders enjoys staying active, gaming, and spending quality time with his fiancée Amanda and their dogs. His favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid... for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
