LABOR DAY CLASSIC — Mission University volleyball competed in three matches over the weekend at the Labor Day Classic, facing Baker University, Marian University and Park University.
The Patriots opened the weekend Friday against Baker before returning to action Saturday morning against Marian and later facing Park. Mission finished the weekend 1-7 overall following the three matches.
Mission at Baker
Mission opened the Labor Day Classic Friday afternoon against Baker University.
The Patriots battled throughout the opening two sets, but Baker took the first set 25-7 and the second 26-24. Baker then closed out the match with a 25-14 victory in the third set.
Mission finished the match with 22 kills and 21 assists. Abbi Street led the Patriots with six kills, while Shelby Evans and Allie Czachowski each added five kills. Maddie Rue contributed four kills.
Addison Brizendine directed the Mission offense with 12 assists, while Callie Terrell added seven assists.
Mission vs. Marian
Mission returned to action Saturday morning against Marian University.
Marian took the opening set 25-7 before winning the second set 25-10. Mission continued to compete in the third set, but Marian ultimately secured the match with a 25-18 victory.
Mission recorded 16 kills in the match, with Street leading the Patriots with four kills. Evans and Czachowski each recorded three kills, while Rue added three kills.
Mission finished with 13 assists, led by Brizendine with five and Garrison with three. Rue also recorded three service aces.
Mission at Park
Mission closed out the Labor Day Classic Saturday morning against host Park University.
The Patriots opened the match with a 25-17 loss in the first set before pushing Park in the second set. Mission battled to a 31-29 set before Park ultimately claimed the frame.
Park then closed out the match with a 25-9 victory in the third set.
Mission recorded 27 kills in its final match of the weekend, led by Abbi Street with eight kills. Maddie Rue added seven kills, while Evans recorded five and Czachowski added four.
Rue also contributed 12 assists and two service aces, while Callie Terrell added nine assists.
