BATESVILLE, Ark. — Mission University Softball picked up wins No. 20 and 21 on the season Tuesday, sweeping Lyon College in a doubleheader and continuing to build momentum into AMC play.
Game One: Mission 7, Lyon 3
Mission opened the day with a strong all-around performance, using timely hitting and solid pitching to take game one.
The Patriots totaled 9 hits, scoring across multiple innings to gradually create separation. Mission took advantage of opportunities early and added key insurance runs late to stay in control.
Courtney Merrell paced the offense, while multiple Patriots contributed RBIs throughout the lineup.
In the circle, Hailey Presley delivered a complete-game effort, allowing just 3 runs while keeping Lyon from generating consistent offense.
Game Two: Mission 12, Lyon 11
Game two turned into an offensive battle, with Mission holding off Lyon in a high-scoring contest to complete the sweep.
The Patriots exploded for 12 runs on 17 hits, with production coming from throughout the lineup. Mission responded time and time again, answering Lyon's runs and maintaining control late.
Kloe Hendrickson and Apryl Zeno sparked the offense at the top, while Merrell and Maggie Painter came through with key RBIs in big moments.
Presley also picked up the win in game two, battling through the back-and-forth action to secure the sweep.
AMC Standings Update
With the two wins, Mission improves to 21–11 overall and 7–3 in AMC play, currently sitting 5th in the conference standings.
The Patriots remain within striking distance of the top group:
- Cottey (9–1)
- Williams Baptist (9–1)
- Central Baptist (10–2)
- Columbia (10–4)
Mission's .700 conference winning percentage keeps them firmly in the hunt as the regular season continues.
What's Ahead
Mission returns to conference action Friday against Cottey College before traveling Saturday to face Columbia College. The Patriots will then host Hannibal-LaGrange on April 20 before closing that stretch with a road trip to Central Baptist on April 23.
