Mission University's men's basketball team fell 85-67 to the Columbia College Cougars in an AMC conference matchup at home Thursday night.
Pregame
The Patriots entered the contest 9-15 overall and 5-6 in conference play following a tough 81-68 loss to Hannibal-LaGrange University. Columbia came into Springfield 22-3 overall and 10-1 in AMC action after a 72-60 win over UHSP earlier in the week. Mission and Columbia had met once earlier this season, with Mission dropping a 77-90 decision on the road.
Game Summary
Mission stayed within striking distance in a competitive first half, trailing by just three at the break, 39-36. The Patriots got scoring from several starters — Najee Williams hit shots from deep, Jamarian Cato worked inside for points and rebounds, and Clifford Barrow found his rhythm with jump shots that kept Mission close in the early stages.
However, Columbia began to pull away in the second half behind efficient scoring and rebounding. The Cougars maintained a high field-goal percentage and extended their lead in the early part of the second half. Mission fought back with effort plays and timely baskets, including a 3-pointer from Williams and interior scoring from Perry and Barrow, but turnovers and missed three-point attempts prevented Mission from cutting significantly into the Cougar advantage. Columbia's depth allowed them to sustain momentum, and they finished with a decisive 85-67 win.
