Mission University Men's Soccer squared off with local rival Evangel University on Tuesday night at Coryell Field, battling with intensity and energy before falling 2–0 in a match that showcased the Patriots' resilience.
The game remained scoreless for over 80 minutes as Mission's defensive line held firm against relentless Evangel pressure. Goalkeeper Jordon Shaw was once again a standout in net, collecting seven saves to keep the Patriots within striking distance. His leadership at the back anchored a determined Mission defense that refused to yield until the final stretch.
On the offensive side, Mission created moments of promise with three total shots, including a dangerous effort on goal from Andrey Smolin in the first half. Kyler Rowe and Clayton McClellan also tested Evangel's defense, helping Mission keep the rival Valor honest.
Evangel eventually broke through with two late goals in the 82nd minute, sealing the win. Despite the setback, the Patriots' effort against a strong Evangel squad underscored the team's progress through the early season.
Mission (0–4) continues to grow sharper with each contest as they navigate a tough non-conference slate. The Patriots will look to build on their defensive organization and moments of attacking promise as they prepare for their next matchup.
