Ozark, Missouri: The seventh seeded Patriots had quite a run toward the national championship, but came up just short on the last day to finish second.  In the winner's bracket championship contest the Patriots were again facing the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles.  Mission fell behind 6-1 after four innings, rallied to tie the game, but gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth that proved to be the difference.  In the top of the first inning, Landon Richards led off the contest with a home run to right center field.  The Eagles countered in the bottom half of the inning with a run off of two hits to tie the game, 1-1.  Fort Lauderdale put together four hits in the bottom of the third inning to score two runs to lead, 3-1.  The bottom of the fourth inning saw UFL tack on three more runs for a 6-1 advantage.  It wasn't until the top of the sixth inning that MU finally put some offense on display.  Brennan Montgomery led off with a walk.  Sam Golden was then hit by a pitch.  Dylan Blehm followed with a single to right field to load the bases with no outs.  Drew Vaughn came in as a pinch hitter, reached on an error by the second baseman that scored two Patriots.  The Eagles changed pitchers at that point.  He enticed a Pat batter to fly out for the first out of the inning.  C.J. Miser singled to shortstop, scoring Blehm and moving Vaughn all the way to third base as the shortstop made a throwing error.  Kyle Langford courtesy ran for Miser.  Tate Wheeler hit the ball up the middle for a fielder's choice RBI as Langford was retired and Vaughn scoring.  The Patriots had pulled to within 6-5.  The Pats managed to tie the contest in the top of the seventh inning, 6-6.  Montgomery hit a leadoff single to right.  Landon Parker pinch ran for Montgomery.  Golden was hit by another pitch, his second of the contest.  After a Patriot out, Parker was able to move over to third base on a wild pitch.  A second Patriot out occurred next.  Grant Merryman managed to single up the middle to tie the game as Parker scored from third.  The Eagles scratched across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning aided by a Patriot error, 7-6.  The Patriots did get their leadoff hitter on base in the ninth, Golden, who was hit by a third pitch.  Unfortunately, he was part of an Eagle double play that stymied the rally.  Carter Vienhage did follow with a single to right, but was stranded there to end the game.
The Patriots had to wait to see who their opponent would be the next day in a winner-take-all title game.  University of Fort Lauderdale played Jessup University to determine that and the Warriors easily defeated UFL to set up the final game.  Mission took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, but it would be the only time they would lead in the title game.  Landon Richards singled up the middle to get the action underway.  Trey Mulholland also singled up the middle to give MU men on first and second with no one out.  Unfortunately, the next to Patriot batters would be retired.  Dylan Blehm then hit an opposite field bloop double down the left field line that drove in Richards.  The Jessup University Warriors came battling back immediately as they posted three runs in the top of the second inning to lead, 3-1.  The Pats would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the second to trail, 3-2.  After two Patriot outs were recorded by the Eagles, Tate Wheeler drew a base on balls.  Richards continued his torrid hitting with an opposite field double into the left field corner that scored Wheeler.  Neither team scored in the third, fourth, or fifth inning.  In the top of the sixth inning the Warriors managed to use two singles around a walk, to score a single tally, 4-2 JU.  Jessup was at it again with another single run in the top of the seventh inning, this time with a single and a double, 5-2 Jessup.  The top of the eighth inning would be MU's undoing, as Jessup scored five runs on five hits to take a commanding 10-2 advantage.  The Patriots managed to rally a bit in the bottom of the eighth, using three hits and a Warrior error, to score three runs.  Drew Vaughn singled to right center to start the inning.  After a Patriot out, C.J. Miser was hit by a pitch, Vaughn advanced to second.  Kyle Langford courtesy ran for Miser.  Both Vaughn and Langford moved up a base on a second Patriot out.  Richards then collected his fourth hit on the day, a double, which scored both runners.  Mulholland would follow with a double of his own to drive in Richards.  That would end the scoring for MU as they trailed 10-5 entering the final inning.  The Warriors plated another run in the ninth, 11-5.  MU managed to get two base runners in the bottom half, a Golden walk and a single by Blehm, however, a double play was turned on the next batter which basically killed any hopes of a miracle comeback.
The Patriots made history for their program, 38 wins, the most ever by a MU/BBC team, and a second place finish in the NCCAA World Series.  Landon Richards batted 13 for 25 for the World Series for a .520 average. Next Up:
