Mission University picked up its first American Midwest Conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Stephens College 61–58 in a hard-fought battle at Silverthorne Arena.
Balanced Effort Fuels Road Victory
Mission (4–5, 1–0 AMC) relied on a collective scoring effort, highlighted by Ireland Jones, who delivered a standout performance with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals while shooting 8-of-15 from the field. Tara Masten added a crucial boost off the bench, finishing with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. The Lady Patriots had 9 players contribute to the scoring colum tonight.
The Patriots shot 44.2% from the field and knocked down timely perimeter looks, finishing 5-of-14 from beyond the arc. Mission also controlled the glass, winning the rebound battle 44–39, including 11 offensive boards that created key second-chance opportunities.
Fourth-Quarter Composure Secures the Win
Holding a 44–48 deficit entering the fourth, Mission responded with one of its most composed frames of the season. The Patriots limited turnovers, executed in the half court, and came up with stops when needed—outscoring Stephens 17–10 in the final period. A late defensive stand in the final minute preserved the three-point margin and sealed the Patriots' first conference victory.
Looking Ahead
Mission returns home on Monday for a rematch with Ecclesia College, a team the Patriots defeated in the season opener.
