LAWRENCE, Kan. — Mission University dropped a 73–52 matchup to Brescia (Ky.) on Wednesday afternoon in a neutral-site contest hosted at Haskell University.
Game Overview
Brescia set the tone early, jumping out to a 21–5 lead after the first quarter behind efficient shooting and a strong presence on the boards. Mission steadied itself in the middle quarters, finding more rhythm offensively, but Brescia's rebounding advantage and timely perimeter shooting allowed them to maintain control throughout.
The Bearcats finished with a 48–29 edge on the glass and knocked down nine threes to keep the Patriots from closing the gap in the second half.
Patriot Leaders
Ireland Jones led Mission with 15 points, while Miya Nieto added 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Jayla Kirksey provided 6 points and 5 rebounds.
Positives to Take Home
-
The Patriots committed just 7 turnovers, their lowest total of the season, compared to 14 by Brescia.
-
That defensive pressure turned into production, as Mission scored 12 points off turnovers.
-
Ball security and forced mistakes kept the Patriots within striking distance even as rebounding and shooting numbers favored the opponent.
Looking Ahead
Mission returns to AMC competition on Monday, traveling for its second conference game of the season at UHSP.
