Lady Patriots End on Top of OT Contest

Mission 87, Haskell 84 (OT)
November 15, 2025 – W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse

Pregame

Mission entered Saturday's non-conference matchup at W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse looking to build on momentum after a thrilling overtime win against Calvary University. The Lady Patriots came in 2–3 on the season, aiming to climb back to .500. Haskell arrived at 4–4 following a loss to Friends University, bringing an experienced and high-volume scoring roster into Springfield.

1st Quarter — Haskell 21, Mission 20

Mission opened with early pace behind Ireland Jones, who scored the team's first eight points, including a pair of threes to put the Lady Patriots in front 11–4. Haskell responded with timely shooting of their own, using a balanced attack from Ivy Fox and Ona Dauphinais to chip away at the lead. Despite Jones' hot start — 14 points in the opening frame — Haskell closed the quarter with back-to-back baskets, including a buzzer-beating layup to edge ahead 21–20.

2nd Quarter — Haskell 38, Mission 34

Miya Nieto gave Mission a jolt to start the second, knocking down consecutive threes to briefly put the Lady Patriots back in front. But turnovers stalled Mission's rhythm, and Haskell capitalized with second-chance points and aggressive drives to the rim. Fox continued her strong half with efficient scoring, and Dauphinais added a deep three as the Lady Indians built their largest lead of the quarter. Mission managed to stay within striking distance, but trailed 38–34 at halftime.

3rd Quarter — Mission 60, Haskell 54

Mission completely flipped the momentum after the break. The Lady Patriots erupted for a 26-point quarter — their highest of the game — fueled by improved defensive pressure and timely shooting. Nieto hit another three, Callaway converted inside, and Jones continued her dominant afternoon with multiple deep threes, eventually tying the game and pushing Mission ahead. A late three from Nieto capped off a 26–16 surge, sending Mission into the fourth up 60–54.

4th Quarter — Tied 73–73

Mission held control early in the final frame, stretching the lead to 69–60 after baskets from Jones, Nieto, and another key triple from Autumn Gunter. But Haskell stormed back, forcing turnovers and converting at the free-throw line. The Lady Indians tied the game at 73 with under a minute remaining. Both teams had late chances — including a final Haskell shot at the horn — but the game headed to overtime knotted at 73–73.

Overtime — Mission 87, Haskell 84

Haskell scored the first five points of overtime, but Mission responded with poise. Gunter knocked down two free throws and then finished a strong drive to tie the game 77–77. Moments later, she buried a clutch three from the right wing to give Mission the lead back at 80–77.

After Haskell pulled even at 82–82, Mission delivered once more — this time with Whitney Coffelt hitting a corner three off a pass from Jones. Holding an 85–84 lead in the final minute, Mission came up with a crucial defensive stop and Jones added a free throw to make it 86–84. Jayla Kirksey split a late pair at the line for the final margin, and Mission closed out the game with a defensive stand at the buzzer.

Final Thoughts

Three players scored in double figures for Mission, led by a massive night from Ireland Jones, who finished with 35 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals while hitting seven threes. Miya Nieto added 17, and Autumn Gunter chipped in 17, including several decisive plays in overtime. Mission also won the rebounding battle 44–45 and knocked down 16 threes in the win.

The Lady Patriots move to 3–3 on the season with back-to-back overtime victories.
