SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — November 1, 2025
The Mission University Men's Basketball team wrapped up its California road trip on Saturday night, showing toughness and fight in a 90–76 loss to The Master's University inside the MacArthur Center.
The Patriots went toe-to-toe with one of the nation's top programs (ranked 9th in the nation), holding their own for much of the night before The Master's pulled away in the second half behind a strong performance on the glass and at the free-throw line.
Mission trailed by just five at halftime, 40–35, but the Mustangs used a 50-point second half to create separation. Despite the loss, the Patriots matched The Master's nearly shot-for-shot, finishing the game at 40.3% from the field — nearly identical to their opponent's 40.0%.
Offensive Leaders
Justin Gill led Mission with 22 points and seven rebounds, shooting 9-for-17 from the floor while providing consistent scoring throughout the night. Lawson Beem added 13 points and hit six of seven free throws, while Sterling Vinson finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Freshman Taco Biggs provided a lift off the bench with eight points and five rebounds, and Justin Wormell, Rayshaun Fowler, and Tyler Barnett each added five.
Team Performance
The Patriots shot 83% from the free-throw line (20-of-24) and earned 10 offensive rebounds, converting them into 12 second-chance points. Mission's balanced attack produced 32 points in the paint and 26 off the bench, keeping pressure on The Master's defense throughout the game.
The Mustangs controlled the rebounding margin 54–41 and capitalized on turnovers. Mission shared the ball well but was limited to five assists against an athletic and disciplined Mustang defense.
Looking Ahead
Mission (0–3) will return home from the California trip looking to regroup and build on its offensive rhythm. The Patriots will resume play in the Bellevue Classic against Dickinson State.
