The Mission University volleyball team put together another strong showing on Saturday, picking up a win over Williams Baptist before narrowly falling in a five-set battle to Cottey College. The Patriots showed poise, energy, and resilience across both matches, signaling clear strides as they move deeper into American Midwest Conference play.
Mission 3, Williams Baptist 1
Mission opened the day with a confident performance, defeating Williams Baptist in four sets (25–28, 25–19, 25–22, 25–18). The Patriots found their rhythm early and continued to apply steady pressure at the net and from the service line.
Shelby Evans led the way offensively with 9 kills and 12 points, while Allie Czachowski added 11 kills and 4 blocks in another strong all-around effort. Setter Hannah Maxwell continued to pace the offense with 42 assists and 13 digs, while Rylea King anchored the back row with a match-high 22 digs.
Mission's balanced attack and defensive consistency proved to be the difference as the Patriots controlled the pace throughout the match, earning their second straight conference victory.
Cottey College 3, Mission 2
In the second match of the day, Mission pushed one of the AMC's top programs to the brink, falling 3–2 in a hard-fought battle (29–27, 22–25, 12–25, 27–25, 11–15). The Patriots showed tremendous fight and composure, bouncing back from a tough third set to force a decisive fifth.
Abbi Street turned in one of her best performances of the year, finishing with 18 kills and 25 digs, while Sarah Purcell added 12 kills and strong play at the net. Maxwell again directed the offense efficiently, recording 53 assists, and Taylor Garrison and Rylea King each delivered standout defensive efforts with double-digit digs.
Though the Patriots came up just short, the match marked one of their most competitive performances of the season against a quality opponent.
Looking Ahead
Now 6–14 overall and 2–5 in AMC play, Mission will look to carry this momentum into another key stretch of conference matches. The Patriots' recent performances have shown a growing confidence and chemistry across all rotations — setting the stage for a strong push as the season continues.
