Lady Patriots battle for an AMC road win in Walnut Ridge

In the opening set, the Mission University Lady Patriots spurted to a 5-1 lead, then moved to a 12-6 advantage.  The Lady Pats increased their lead to 16-9 before the Williams Baptist University Lady Eagles began a run.  Williams Baptist tied the score at 18-18, then took their first lead 20-18, before MU got the ball back.  The Lady Eagles then led 22-20 before the Lady Patriots forced extra play.  Williams Baptist did score the last four points after MU had taken a 24-23 lead, to take the first set 26-24.  Ella Sims had the hot hand as she led MU with 6 Kills in the first set.  In the second set, the teams traded points until the Lady Pats took a small 8-4 lead.  When the Lady Pats pushed the lead to 13-7, WBU took a timeout.  The Lady Eagles pulled to within 20-14, but Mission then scored five of the next six points to win the second set 25-15 to tie the match at 1-1.  Summer Kenney put up 5 Kills in set 2 to lead the Lady Pats.  In the third set, Williams Baptist scored three straight points to lead 7-4, resulting in a MU timeout.  Four straight consecutive points by MU made it 9-8, Lady Patriots.  Three Kills in a row by Abbi Street gave the Lady Patriots momentum and the lead, 15-11.  At 18-13 Mission, the Lady Eagles took a timeout.  Williams Baptist fought back before falling in set 3, 25-22.  Sims pounded 5 Kills to pace the Lady Pats.  With MU up 2 sets to 1, the fourth set was a battle.  The Lady Patriots moved in front 8-4 in the early going of set 4.  The set looked like it was well in hand for MU after a Kill be Sarah Purcell and two Kills by Kenney gave the Lady Patriots a 17-10 margin.  The Lady Eagles were not done just yet.  Despite getting down 22-16, the Lady Eagles regrouped during a timeout, scoring the next 7 of 8 points to tie the set at 23-23.  When Williams Baptist scored on the next play to go up 24-23, they were one point away from forcing a fifth set.  Fortunately, the Lady Patriots scored four of the next five points to win the set, 27-25, and the match.  Kenney led the way with 6 Kills in the final set.    
  • Summer Kenney paced the squad with 20 Kills, and .311 hitting.
  • Ella Sims led the team with .412 hitting, including 16 Kills.
  • Rylea King led five Lady Patriots in double figures with 22 Digs for the match.
  • Ryleigh Fowler had 36 Assists to pace the team.                        
 
Upcoming action:
The Volley Patriots stay on the road as they travel to Paragould, Arkansas, for another American Midwest Conference match, on Thursday, October 24, against the Crowley's Ridge College Lady Pioneers.  The match is scheduled for a 6 pm start time.
