The Mission University Lady Patriots got off to a strong start by winning set 1, 25-17. The Lady Patriots began with an early 7-2 advantage and managed to maintain that margin to 12-7. The squad put together a nice 5-2 run to lengthen the lead to 17-9. The teams played even the rest of the set for the MU win.
Allison Czachowski led six Lady Pats who scored a Kill by hitting 5. In the second set, Mission fell behind FBBC 5-1, and never recovered, trailing much of the set by 8-10 points before falling 25-15.
Sarah Purcell and
Summer Kenney each slammed 3 Kills in the second set to lead the Lady Patriots. After falling behind at the beginning of the third set, 6-3, the Lady Pats scratched their way back to tie the set at 8-8. That momentum carried forward as the team went on a 5-0 run to lead 12-8. The Lady Eagles kept the set close, even tying the set 24-24. A Kill by Kenney gave the team a one point lead, 25-24, the Czachowski hammered a Kill to end the set, 26-24.
Ryleigh Fowler got hot at the service line as she had 2 Services Aces in the set. Kenney led the team with 5 Kills during the third set. Down 2 sets to 1, the Lady Eagles played a spirited fourth set. Faith Baptist led by three points twice to begin the set, 7-4 and 8-5, but the Lady Patriots managed to tie the set at 8-8. Mission seemed to fall apart at that point, however, as Faith Baptist went on a 7-0 spurt to lead 15-8. Slowly MU chipped away at the deficit, managing to get within four points at 22-18. The team pulled together to tie the set at 23-23, then 24-24, and finally at 25-25. A Kill by Kenney put the Lady pats up by one, 26-25, and then the match ended as a Lady Eagle made a bad set to a teammate costing Faith Baptist the point, the set, and the match.
Ella Sims had the hot arm in the fourth set, particularly down the stretch, as she had 3 of her 6 set-leading Kills in the last four Patriot points.
- Allison Czachowski, Ella Sims, and Summer Kenney led the team in Kills with 14 apiece.
- Czachowski led the way in hitting with .476, while Sims also had a strong night with .355 hitting.
- Ryleigh Fowler had 34 Assists and 4 Service aces to pace the team.
- Rylea King led three teammates in double figures with 20 Digs for the match.
Upcoming action:
The Volley Patriots come home on Tuesday, October 15, to play a home AMC contest against Hannibal-LaGrange University. The match is slated for a 6 pm start.
