Jackson Vestal got out of a small jam in the top half of the first inning, then got run support to earn the shutout win, 4-0. In the bottom of the second inning the Patriots got on the scoreboard when
Haden Parton singled with one out.
Grant Merryman sacrificed bunted him to second base.
Jayton Cromer then reached on an error to make it first and third base with two outs. As Cromer was stealing second base, the pitcher balked allowing Parton to score an unearned run.
After a relatively smooth second, third, and fourth inning by Vestal, the Patriot bats came out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Drew Wheeler began the inning by reaching on an infield error. Kam Grant moved him to third base on a double. Parton picked up an RBI single driving in D. Wheeler. After a double play, Cromer doubled in Grant to make it 3-0.
Again, D. Wheeler started the action in the bottom of the sixth inning by reaching base on a hit batsman. Unfortunately, another double play followed. With two outs, Parton singled, then
Brennan Montgomery, pinch-hitting, drew a walk, to make it first and second for the Patriots. Cromer picked up another RBI with a single to give the Patriots a 4-0 lead.
The Mustangs went down in order in the seventh to give the Patriots the win.
