Game Recap: Baseball | | Robert Vestal

The Patriots go an extra inning to win game 1 of a 4 game series with Kansas Christian College

Final score-  Baptist Bible College 10, Kansas Christian College 4  (8 innings)
Location-  KCC (Kansas City Urban Youth Academy Complex) Overland Park, Kansas
Springfield, Missouri-  The Patriots battled back to tie the game, then take lead in the top of the seventh.  The Falcons then tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to force an extra inning.  The Patriots' bats exploded for six runs in the top of the eighth to claim the victory, 10-4.
BBC got on the board first in the top of the first inning.  Tate Wheeler led off the game with a walk, followed by Landon Richards being hit by a pitch.  Haden Parton then drilled a single to left field to drive in T. Wheeler with no outs.  Unfortunately, that was all the Patriots would get out of a good start.  In the second inning, with one out, Jayton Cromer drove the ball deep to centerfield to earn a triple.  Grant Merryman placed a sacrifice fly to center field deep enough to score Cromer, 2-0 BBC.  In the bottom of the second, the Falcons plated two runs to tie the game, 2-2
In the bottom of the fifth inning KCC took the lead, 3-2, on a single, stolen base, then another single.  The Patriots began their rally in the top of the sixth inning with two outs.  Cromer singled to left.  Merryman doubled him home to tie it, 3-3.  The Falcons failed to score in the bottom half setting up the seventh inning.
In the seventh, once again with two outs, Haden Parton doubled.  Dylan Blehm drew a base on balls, then Kam Grant drove in Parton to give BBC a 4-3 lead.  The falcons countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh.
When you go extra innings, a runner is placed on second base to start the inning with hopes of a run being scored to shorten the game.  The Patriots took full advantage of that, and then some.  With Colton Highfill starting on second base, Drew Wheeler hit a single making it first and third with no one out.  Cromer again got a key hit when he doubled in both runners, 6-4, BBC.  Merryman sacrificed Cromer to third base then Logan Crum plated Cromer with a single.  Gabe Terry came into run for Crum.  Tate Wheeler then tripled in Terry, 8-4.  Landon Richards then hit a double that scored T. Wheeler.  Later with Richards on second base, Highfill hit a single to score Richards, making 10-4.  Despite KCC also having a leadoff man placed on second base, reliever Tate Wheeler got the Falcons to go down in order without surrendering a run.
Highlights- Up next-  The Patriots play game two of a 4 game set with Kansas Christian College, in Overland Park, Kansas, March 31.
