Springfield, Missouri- The Patriots had a key inning, the sixth, played good defense, and a solid pitching effort by Jack Vestal to win the first game of today's doubleheader.
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first, as they scored a single run in the bottom of the third inning. The Patriots put together three of their six hits in the sixth inning to score three runs, and could have had more. After one out was recorded by College of the Ozarks, the Patriots'
Landon Richards singled for one of his three hits.
Dylan Blehm then reached base on an error by the left fielder.
Gabe Terry was brought in to pinch run for Richards.
Haden Parton then singled in Terry with Blehm moving on to second base to tie the contest, 1-1.
Elijah Nadurata was put in to run for Blehm at second base. Kam Grant was up next and hit a gap to drive both runners in as he wound up with a triple, 3-1 BBC. Unfortunately, the Patriots could not add more.
The Bobcats countered with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to draw within 3-2. After the Patriots went down in order in the top of the seventh inning it was left to Vestal and his defense. A leadoff single meant the tying run was one base. Vestal then caught a break when the Bobcat batter hit a line drive to
Tate Wheeler at second base, who then doubled up the runner at first. C. of O. then got another single, but the next batter ended the game by flying out to right field to end the contest, 3-2 BBC.
