Springfield, Missouri- The Patriots jumped on the number 11
th ranked Spartans in the NAIA poll early, then prevailed on the solid pitching performance of
Josh Buxton. In the bottom of the first inning, BBC scored two.
Tate Wheeler led off the game with a base on balls.
Landon Richards followed that up with a single to make it first and second with no outs. Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch. After one out,
Dylan Blehm grounded out to second base to drive in T. Wheeler and advance Richards to third base.
Haden Parton followed that up with an RBI single, 2-0 BBC.
In the bottom of the second,
Grant Merryman walked. He advanced to third base on an out to centerfield which resulted in a two base error by the fielder after the catch. Later, with two outs, Richards came to the plate and laced a single that brought home Merryman, 3-0 BBC.
The Patriots would score another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Richards reached base for the third time in as many tries when he led the inning off with a base on balls. After one out, Blehm hit a double in the gap to plate Richards giving the Patriots a 4-0 lead.
The Spartans finally scored on two hits and a walk, to cut the deficit to 4-1 in the top half of the sixth inning. Buxton then went the distance by giving up only a single in the top of the seventh inning to earn the win. Buxton scattered five hits over seven innings while giving up a single earned run.
