The Mission University softball team opened NCCAA Regional play Friday in Fort Worth, Texas, taking on Dallas Christian College and Wayland Baptist in a pair of tightly contested games.
Mission dropped a 1-0 pitcher's duel against Dallas Christian College before falling to Wayland Baptist, 3-1, later in the day.
Game 1 – Dallas Christian College 1, Mission 0
The opening game of the regional turned into a defensive battle as Mission held Dallas Christian to just one run despite six hits allowed.
Hailey Presley led the Patriots in the circle, striking out four across six innings while surrendering only one earned run.
Mission collected six hits offensively, including a two-hit performance from Maggie Painter. Apryl Zeno, Presley, Cole Smith, and MJ Frillman each added hits in the loss.
The Crusaders scored the game's lone run in the fourth inning and made it stand behind a complete-game shutout effort.
Game 2 – Wayland Baptist 3, Mission 1
The Lady Patriots were limited to two hits in the second game of the day but stayed within striking distance throughout the contest. Mission pushed across its lone run in the top of the seventh inning after drawing seven walks as a team.
Kloe Hendrickson and Maddie Good recorded Mission's two hits, while Haley Frillman scored the team's lone run. MJ Frillman reached base twice with a pair of walks.
Presley again tossed all six innings in the circle for Mission, allowing six hits and three runs while working through pressure from the Wayland offense.
Wayland Baptist broke through with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to secure the regional victory.
