Springfield, Missouri- The Lady Patriots had several opportunities, but could not come up with key hits in dropping a doubleheader to the Cottey College Comets. In game 1, Cottey College scored first when they took advantage of a Patriot error to score a run. The Lady patriots were able to counter in the bottom half of the first inning. After one Patriot was out,
Kloe Hendrickson doubled deep to left-center. A ground out pushed Hendrickson to third base.
Apryl Zeno hit a little flare to right that knocked in Hendrickson. The Lady Patriots took the lead in the bottom of the second, 2-1, for their only lead of the day. A one-out double to center by
Macie Vestal started the rally.
Courtney Merrell then doubled to center field to knock in Vestal. The Comets put together their own rally in the top of the fourth inning when they had a double, then a two-out triple that tied the game. Unfortunately, a wild pitch followed which gave the Comets a 3-2 lead. The Comets then added another tally in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady patriots were unable to secure any hits in the final three innings as they dropped a 4-2 decision.
